Our methodology

Seafire's methodology is based on the premise that neither grants to NGOs, nor laissez-faire capitalism can solve the problems of development.

We believe developing and implementing million-house models, with a socially-oriented business model approach is the best way forward.

This delivers social impact at a scale that matters, at the lowest possible cost, with optimal resource efficiency. Ultimately it yields both genuine sustainable outcomes for bottom of pyramid, as well as more impact per Euro spent for institutions.

Our approach also avoids shortcomings such as "handout culture" and dependency among end-users, lack of long term sustainability when the grant is removed, and the high administrative costs of grant-making programs themselves - these are all defining characteristics, of purely grant-based programs which dominate development today!

We follow a five stage process

1. Idea

We look at problems facing our country and come up with innovative ideas which could be sustainable, scalable solutions that can replicate across ecosystems. For example, roads and pavements in Indian villages are littered with trash. Can we power a waste-to-energy plant in each village, fueled by community collection of trash?

2. Concept

We investigate ideas to confirm their viability along three parameters. Social impact, financial viability, and community acceptance. What is the cost of a waste-to-energy plant? How much energy would it generate? What's the cost of trash collection? How do we segregate the trash?

3. Pilot

We conduct pilots over several months or years, to ground the developed concept in reality and ensure delivery of real-world outcomes along 4 parameters - social impact, financial viability, technical performance, and community acceptance. Our concepts and pilots are designed for scalability, replicability and with a plan for self-sufficiency - removing long-term dependence on grants, from day 1.

4. Early revenue stage

We take the outcomes from our pilots, and scale them into socially-oriented business models. Cash flow and profitability assessment, side by side with impact assessment, allows developmental institutions, to accurately assess the viability of each model.

5. Scaling across ecosystems

The Standard Operating Procedures created in the early revenue stage, are replicated across an ecosystem of NGOs. Our models are asset-light, partnership oriented, and based on enabling networks. We translate deep knowledge and insights around a specific problem, into implementable processes.
